Kenya wins bid for 2015 WTO conference

Friday 09 January 2015

Exciting news for Kenya who will host the 10th World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference in Nairobi, from December 15-18.

Member countries of the WTO unanimously made the decision following lobbying by Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, led by Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed.

Wausi Walya, PR and Corporate Communications Manager of the Kenya Tourism Board, told Tourism Update that the investment of international hotel brands such as Kempinski, Radisson Blu and Dusit had increased Nairobi’s bed capacity, making the city more attractive and competitive for conferencing.  The enhanced connectivity at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport had also raised the status of the airport as a regional commercial hub, she added.

According to Walya, Kenya will also host other international meetings this year for Skål International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals, the Africa Travel Association and the World Public Relations Conference on Emerging Markets.
